A goal for Melissa and I

Late last year Melissa and I started to talk about alternative sources of revenue for our house.  We are not looking for an easy way to make a lot of money, but just something to maybe bring in a couple of bucks a month.  If we were able to find something that we both enjoyed then all the better.  In fact if it was something that we could together all the better.  One of the things we really enjoy doing is photography, we have even received a few compliments on what we have done.  I believe we have the creative side but need a little bit of training before we really start, and I want to buy a few more pieces of equipment.

But coming this fall look for us to get really serious about our new endeavor, Bella Vida photography.
Bella Vida in spanish means Beautiful Life, and that is something that we really want to be able to capture with our photography.  Our desire is to photograph events that are meaningful to people such as Weddings and Engagements as well as some other events that truly are examples of living life beautifully.  We are really excited for this new part of our life and we hope you will be too.

Photography

The last two weekends in October were spent at the UCSC Men’s and Women’s Rugby Slugfest.  The women had their tourney first on Saturday, October 22.  I rented a 70-300mm lens from Borrowlenses.com and had a great time shooting all day.  At the end of the day I was not pleased with the usable photos that I took, but I came away with lessons learned.

The Ben Quaye Memorial Rugby Tournament (Formally Slugfest) found me up at the Upper East Field again on October 29, however this time I rented a 100-400mm lens from borrowlenses.com. (I will blog about borrow lenses.com in the future, but an awesome company).  Here is one of my favorite shots, although not the best in my opinion.

It was an amazing weekend where I learned a lot.  I was playing around with my Canon 7D settings and I messed up a lot of shots.  But in the end of the day and after editing a bit in lightroom I was able to gain more skill and knowledge.

I have made it a goal that I will continue to get better with photography, so my wife blessed me with a pinup portrait class at a local photography shop called Aperture Academy, located in Campbell, Ca.  Looking forward to this class in January, will probably try to rent another lens.  Next year I hope to be able to purchase two-three new lenses and I want to make sure that I buy the ones that best fit my need.

As I learn I plan on using this site to post some of my better shots, as well as ones where I have learned a lot by taking/editing them.
