Photography

The last two weekends in October were spent at the UCSC Men’s and Women’s Rugby Slugfest.  The women had their tourney first on Saturday, October 22.  I rented a 70-300mm lens from Borrowlenses.com and had a great time shooting all day.  At the end of the day I was not pleased with the usable photos that I took, but I came away with lessons learned.

The Ben Quaye Memorial Rugby Tournament (Formally Slugfest) found me up at the Upper East Field again on October 29, however this time I rented a 100-400mm lens from borrowlenses.com. (I will blog about borrow lenses.com in the future, but an awesome company).  Here is one of my favorite shots, although not the best in my opinion.

It was an amazing weekend where I learned a lot.  I was playing around with my Canon 7D settings and I messed up a lot of shots.  But in the end of the day and after editing a bit in lightroom I was able to gain more skill and knowledge.

I have made it a goal that I will continue to get better with photography, so my wife blessed me with a pinup portrait class at a local photography shop called Aperture Academy, located in Campbell, Ca.  Looking forward to this class in January, will probably try to rent another lens.  Next year I hope to be able to purchase two-three new lenses and I want to make sure that I buy the ones that best fit my need.

As I learn I plan on using this site to post some of my better shots, as well as ones where I have learned a lot by taking/editing them.

Tim Tebow

I grew up a football fan, wasting many Sunday afternoons and Monday nights watching football on television. Not only was I a football fan but I was a DALLAS COWBOYS football fan. Over the last few years I have watched less and less football because I just find the sport boring now. I read somewhere that the average 3 hour football game has about 13 minutes of actual action. So unfortunately I have no idea how my beloved Dallas Cowboys are doing, unless I really cared and went to ESPN to look at the standings.

So you might be asking yourself one thing, then why are you talking about football? A news article popped up in a news reader about Tim Tebow. Tim I guess is a decent quarterback who has managed to win where ever he goes. As a starter the article says Tim Tebow is 4-1 as a starter. Now I could probably go on and on about stats, but who really cares. The reason that I really want to talk about it is because in the article they go on to interview Jake “The Snake” Plummer. In the article he says this about Tim Tebow and his faith:

“I think he’s a winner and I respect that about him,” Plummer told 910-AM. “I think that when he accepts the fact that we know that he loves Jesus Christ, then I think I’ll like him a little better. I don’t hate him because of that, I just would rather not have to hear that every time he takes a good snap or makes a good handoff.”

Say what you will about Tim Tebow and his football talent so far you cannot say anything about his faith.  He is known in the locker room to live out what he speaks, even bringing some teammates to faith.  But Tim had an awesome response and it really should be an example of how every believer should be about their faith with Jesus Christ.  He responds to Jake Plummer and really to all of his critics like this:

“If you’re married and you have a wife and you really love your wife, is it good enough to only say to your wife ‘I love her’ the day you get married? Or should you tell her every single day when you wake up and every opportunity? That’s how I feel about my relationship with Jesus Christ.”

Constant Change

I have this desire to share my message, the problem I have though is that I do not really know what my message is about. Far too often I find myself having a message that matches who I have surrounded myself at any given time. I tend to have people in my life from all walks of life, but instead of being “light of the world” I tend to blend in with my surroundings like the chameleon you see to the right. Matthew 13:16 says this “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. ” Not that I am saying I am a follower, I do stay out of trouble. It is just the little things that I tend to mess up on when I am not trying to “be the light”

Regardless to where God brings me in the next few months I know that I want be growing spiritually by myself but also with my family.
